Richard Ellis Brock

Dr. Richard E. Brock, age 86, of Greenville, Ohio, died on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Heartland of Greenville. Born on March 12, 1925 in Dayton, Ohio, son of the late Harry E. & Lucille E. (Mahan) Brock. Richard graduated in 1942 from Lewisburg Union High School and in 1952 from The Ohio State University, College of Dentistry. Richard was in The Ohio State University Marching Band and a member of The Ohio State University Alumni. Richard retired in 1993 after many years as a dentist.

Richard proudly served as an Ensign in the US Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1952 with the Seebees, the Construction Battalions of the US Navy. Member of the VFW Post 7262 in Greenville; Greenville Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks #1139; St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville and the Knights of Columbus as a 4th degree Knight.

Preceded in death by his sisters, Edith May Brock and Mary E. Spraggins.

Survived by his daughters, Karen McCoy of Catonsville, Maryland, Sharon Schmidt of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Susan (Mark) Maitlen of Greenville, Ohio; sister, Rowena Kouts of Lewisburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Kevin (Ann) McCoy, Benjamin (Lisa) Schmidt, Kristopher Schmidt, Jennifer (Brian) Baker, Sara Maitlen, and Jason Maitlen; great grandchildren, Madisyn, Trey, and Reagan; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Barnes Funeral Home, 411 North Commerce Street, Lewisburg, Ohio 45338 with Rev. David Justis officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, May 30, 2011 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday.

Interment will be held at Roselawn Cemetery in Lewisburg, Ohio with full military honors provided by the Preble County Honor Guard.

Richard was a member of the marching band from 1946 through 1948. He played Efer.
