Maurice Franklin Carlo

Maurice “Maury” Franklin Carlo, 87, of Fremont, Ohio passed away on Friday, July 3, 2026 at Valley View Nursing and Rehabilitation. Maury was born on May 12, 1939 to George Franklin and H. Pauline (Stemen) Carlo in Van Wert, Ohio. He was a 1957 graduate of Hoaglin-Jackson High School in Van Wert, Ohio. Maury was a 1961 graduate from The Ohio State University in Business Agriculture where he was also a member of the Marching Band all four years. Maury served in the Ohio Army National Guard from 1962 to 1968. He married Barbara McCartney on September 5, 1964 in Piqua, Ohio and she preceded him in death on June 19, 2009. Maury then married Verna Young on September 18, 2010 in Fremont, Ohio and she survives.
Maury worked for Ohio Farmers in Fostoria from 1965 to 1994 and retired after twenty-nine years of service. Maury was in The Ohio State Marching Band where he played the trumpet. He played in several musical groups. He was a member of the Barber Shop Harmony Society and volunteered for the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross where he donated over 22 gallons of blood. He ran for over thirty years and ran in many races. Maury had a love for popcorn, beer, and all desserts, especially ice cream and pie.
Maury is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Verna Young; children, David Brian (Stacey) Carlo, Lancaster, Ohio, Diane Marie (David) Norris, Westlake, Ohio, Debra Leann Carlo, The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Emily (Seth) Rhodes, Drew (Courtney) Carlo, Austin Norris, Anika Norris, Brian Carlo; great-grandchildren, Noah Rhodes and Sydney Rhodes.
He is preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Barbara McCartney.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 from 10 – 11 a.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St. Fremont, Ohio 43420.
Funeral services will follow visitation at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 1 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert, Ohio.

Maury was a member of the marching band from 1957 through 1960. He played Trumpet in T-Row.
