William K Carpenter, Sr

April 16, 1927 - November 23, 2013

William Kenneth "Bill" Carpenter, Sr., died Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center.

Bill was born in Columbus, Ohio on April 16, 1927, the son of Louise (Larrick) and Kenneth Emanuel Carpenter.

He was the Jury Commissioner for the Franklin County Court System retiring in 1991. Bill was a World War II Navy veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre and was a member of the Navy Band. He attended The Ohio State University for 3 1/2 years and was a member of the Marching Band, TBDBITL and Kappa Kappa Psi fraternity. Member of Community Lodge #684 F&AM, Scottish Rite and Aladdin Temple Shrine for over 60 years. Bill was a former member of the Worthington Civic Band and member of the Westerville Community Concert Band; and was a soloist at Trinity Episcopal Church, Northwest Christian Church and Trinity United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of Musicians Local #103 and was inducted into the Columbus Musicians Hall of Fame in 2001.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife Doris Carpenter and sister Joan Myers. Bill is survived by his wife, Jo A. Carpenter; his children, Elaine Ebright, Rebecca (John) Borland and William, (Gloria) Carpenter, Jr.; grandchildren, Michele (Carl) Heim, Sarah Ries, Justin Ries, Alexander Borland, Grant (Alyssa) Carpenter, Isaac Borland and Lauren Carpenter; great grandchildren, Kayla Heim, Casey Heim and Jude Carpenter.

Friends may call Wednesday 4-7pm at the Schoedinger Midtown Chapel, 229 E. State St., Columbus, OH 43215, where a Masonic Service will begin at 7 pm and a funeral service will be held at 11 am Friday, November 29, 2013 with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family suggests that contributions be made to a charity of one's choice.

William was in the marching band from 1944 through 1948 and played trumpet.
