Raymond Luther Castle

June 7, 1928 - August 1, 2021

Raymond Luther Castle, age 93 , of Columbus, died Sunday, August 1, 2021 at his home with family by his side.

Survived by his wife of 69 years, Lucille Castle; daughters, Pam Castle and Judy Barto (Bill). Also survived by sister, Betty McCrea; and cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He served for 3 years in the U.S. Air Force.

Graduate of the OSU School of Music, and member of the OSU Marching Band.

He was an Ohio Highway Patrolman for 5 years and retired as a music director and band teacher in Columbus Schools for 35 years.

In addition, he was a member of the OSU Marching Band Alumni (TBDBITL), charter member of the Brass Band of Columbus, and performed in the American Legion Franklin Post Band. He also played in Ray Massa's Italian Orchestra, and Bob Grossman's Buckeye Brass.

Ray was a faithful member of the Eastview Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held in Ray's honor at Schoedinger East Funeral Home, 5360 East Livingston Avenue, Columbus, Ohio 43232, on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at 11 am, with Pastor Craig S. Arnold officiating. At the family's request, everyone is required to wear masks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eastview United Methodist Church, 1045 Ross Road, Columbus, Ohio 43227.

Ray was a member of the marching band from 1950 through 1952 and played trumpet. Ray received the Script Ohio Award in 1999 and the Elvin Donaldson "Most Inspirational Alumni Bandsman" Award in 1987.
