Raymond John Fust Jr.

December 26, 1925 – September 6, 2022

Raymond John Fust, Jr., 96, of Peachtree City, Georgia passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at his home. He was born on December 26, 1925, in Louisville, Kentucky to Raymond Sr. and Regina Fust.

He received a bachelor’s degree from his beloved The Ohio State University, where he was a member of the Beta Phi Chapter of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and the legendary Ohio State University Band. He would go on to earn a master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Louisville. Ray served in the US Army as a chaplain’s aide from 1950 to 1951, being honorably discharged from his service. He worked for most of his successful career for A&P Food Store as a Distribution Manager for various divisions. Ray then went on to work in various executive positions for the Richmond, Fredericksburg, and Potomac Railroad, from where he retired.

Ray met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Hellgren, in Detroit, Michigan. They wed on August 12, 1961, and were married until her passing on December 10, 2020. The family lived in Kentucky and Ohio, before settling in Virginia, in 1966, where they lived until moving to Peachtree City in 2005.

Ray was deeply devoted to his family, including his three sons, David Fust, Michael Fust, and William “Bil” Fust, and his daughter, Catherine Slay. He was a devout Christian, and he loved his Evergreen Church Sunday School class. Ray loved trains and music (he was an avid piano player and a self-taught banjo player), and he loved to tell a good “dad” joke. Ask one of his children to tell you Ray’s formula for a long life!

Ray was predeceased by his wife Patricia Fust; son, David Fust; sister, Florence Crumes; and great-granddaughter, Maeve Hensel. Ray is survived by his children, Michael and Ann Fust, William “Bil” Fust, and Catherine and Colin Slay; his grandchildren, Michael Fust Jr., Kristen Hensel, Kenneth Covington, Justin Fust, and Caitlin Slay; and several great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., at Evergreen Church, 400 Windgate Road, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269. The family will receive family and friends following the memorial service.

If you choose, in lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Ray’s name to Evergreen Church, 400 Windgate Road, Peachtree City, Georgia 30269.

Ray was a member of the marching band in 1944. He played French Horn.
