David Dudley Glick
June 24, 1935 — March 27, 2026
David Dudley Glick passed away peacefully at home in West Melbourne Florida on March 27, 2026 after a short journey with cancer. Dave was born on June 24, 1935, in Columbus, Ohio, son of Dudley and Orlie Glick. He grew up in the mid-atlantic states and graduated from high school in Frederick Maryland.
His first “big dream” was to play trumpet in The Ohio State State Marching Band, which he accomplished 1953-1957 - including a trip to the Rose Bowl in 1955. After graduation, he took his commission with the USAF and realized his second dream, flying jets and helicopters, which took him all over Europe and the USA. In the late 1960s he got interested in Optics and went back to OSU and became an optometrist (OD). He transferred to the US Army and for several years was the clinical optometrist in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Along the way was a research position, helping to develop night vision glasses for pilots.
Dave and Jane were married 50 years until her passing in 2008. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters: Suzanne Glick Peper(Scott) and Sarah Glick Colyer(WaIlace); two grandsons, Kedryn Peper and Max Colyer; and two granddaughters, Brynn Peper and Emily Colyer. Also his brother, E. Frank Glick, and many nieces and nephews. And a myriad of friends!
Dave has always been the consummate sports enthusiast: played racquetball, tennis, golf, and more recently pickleball. Fishing and sailing (especially in the BVls) were favorites too. Being a Buckeye through and through meant that he played his trumpet with the Space Coast Buckeyes for every OSU football game. He played Taps at hundreds of funerals and was active with the Hymnstirs, playing hymns at nursing homes in Melbourne.
Dave has always been active in church wherever he lived, and he loved the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. He and Carolyn Murrow Glick were married in 2015 and have been blessed to travel widely here and abroad. He was known by all to be a most kind, helpful and friendly man. Carolyn’s children John Murrow (Liz), Frank Murrow (Linda), and Joanie Leake (Jim), and her extended family, loved Dave dearly.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Buena Vida Estates, 2129 W New Haven Ave, W Melbourne FL, on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 2 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to Dave’s favorite charity, CHESTNUT MOUNTAIN RANCH, PO Box 757, Morgantown, WV 26507.
Dave was a member of the marching band from 1953 through 1957. He played Efer in X-Row.
