Donald James HaxtonMarch 19, 1923 - June 20, 2013

Donald James Haxton, age 90, of Toledo, Ohio, formerly of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2013. He was born in Canton, Ohio on March 19, 1923, to James B. and Verena E. (Metzner) Haxton. Don received his Bachelor of Education from The Ohio State University in 1949. He began his career teaching music at Willard High School in 1951 and went on to teach for many years at Waite High School.

Over the years, Don played with Jack Runyon's Orchestra and many venues in the Toledo area including Music Under the Stars at The Toledo Zoo. Early in his career, Don was employed by the Cleveland Browns, directing at half-time shows. He served in the Army Air Corps and played in their band from 1943-1946. Don loved to fish, boat, and travel with his wife, Irene.

Don is survived by his children, Carole "CJ" (Dennis Vereb) Troup, James B. (Sharon) Haxton, Lesley A. (Brian) Worthington, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his loving wife, Irene and brother, Edward.

Don's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone at Swan Creek and Senior Independence for the excellent care and assistance they provided to Don in his final days.

A celebration of life for Don will be held at the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St. Maumee, Ohio on Friday, June 28, 2013, from 3:00 pm until the time of services at 5:00 pm.

Donald was a member of the marching band in 1941 and 1941.
