The Best Damn Band In The Land - The Ohio State University Marching Band Alumni

Carol Evans Higgins

~1963 - May 11, 2022

Carol Evans Higgins, age 59, formerly of Grove City, Ohio, passed peacefully in her sleep on May 11, 2022.

Carol graduated from Huron High School in Huron, Ohio in 1981, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University in 1985. She was talented musically, played the tuba for The Best Damn Band In The Land, and dotted the “i” in Script Ohio for the 1984 Ohio State University game at Michigan State University.

She taught elementary school with Columbus Public Schools for more than a quarter of a century, and left a lasting impression on innumerable young minds. Carol was dedicated, present, encouraging, patiently expecting the best in all, and supportive. She always looked for opportunities and possibilities in others to grow and learn. She was a deep thinker, considered all options, and did not jump to conclusions. In fact, she often went for what seemed impossible to others out of love for those she was helping. Carol was always a loyal friend; time could pass, but she would pick up where she left off, always grateful for the opportunity to connect.

She was preceded in death by her mother Virginia (Conley) Evans and father Walter Evans. She is survived by her husband of more than 31 years, Brian Thomas Higgins, and their three children, Sarah Elizabeth Evans Taft(Ronald), Alexander Steven Higgins and Andrew Clarence Higgins (Monica); grandchildren Olivia, Bentley and Christian Bogue; and Oaklynn Higgins; brother, Stephen Walter Evans (Pamela); and many, many cousins and friends.

There will be no visitation or calling hours per her request. Carol loved to buy baby formula and donate it to a local food bank. If you are lucky enough to find some on a shelf, please consider honoring Carol and taking it to your local food bank.

Rest In Peace, Carol… gone too soon! You will be missed!

Carol was a member of the marching band from 1981 through 1984. She played Sousaphone.
