Roe Wallace Hildreth

January 13, 1930 - July 8, 2016

ZANESVILLE: Roe Wallace (Bud) Hildreth, age 86, passed away on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living. Born in Nashville, Tennessee on January 13, 1930, he was the son of the late Roe C. Hildreth and Helen Boyd Hildreth Faust, as well as his late step-father Clyde H. Faust, Sr. He grew up in Ohio, claiming many towns as his own such as Marion, Pataskala and Columbus. He graduated high school from Conneautville, PA in 1948. An Ohio State University graduate, he studied Physical Education and was a member of the OSU Marching Band from 1949 to 1952. He continued to participate with the OSU Alumni Band throughout the years, playing sousaphone at many football game reunions, concerts and parades. Hildreth also kept his constant Ohio State connection alive with over 28 years of dedication as an usher for football games. A true Buckeye, he has followed and supported all OSU sports and activities. Bud was also a U.S. Army Veteran.

Soon after marrying Virginia Beck on June 16, 1956, he secured his first teaching and coaching position in Bedford, Ohio. He earned his Masters in Education from Ohio University in 1958. He then went to Pataskala to teach Biology and was the head basketball coach at Watkins Memorial High School from 1957-1960. Hildreth went on to serve in various school administrative positions in several Ohio towns including Reynoldsburg, Wakeman, Massillon, Urbana, Oxford, and Chillicothe. A retired superintendent, he completed his career with a position in Zanesville as a manager for the CORC job training program.

An avid sports fan and golfer, Hildreth was also a long time member of Coburn United Methodist Church, serving on many committees and participating in The Men's Prayer Group. Over the years, he also had affiliations with the Rotary and Lions Clubs, many schools administration organizations, Salvation Army and The United Way.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of 60 years and three children, Roanne (Thomas) FitzGibbon, Robert D. (Wendy) Hildreth and Randall D. (Elizabeth) Hildreth. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Gwen Stiles, Andrea (Tony) Martin, Evan, Charissa and Shannon Hildreth and three great-grandchildren, Kayla and Julia Stiles and Gillian Martin. He is survived by his brother Clyde (Loyce) Faust, Jr., sister Dorothy Ann Brown and sister-in-law, Vivian Clark as well as numerous relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and associates.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters Ruth F. Keen, Mary Clare Merritt and Betty Gaboreck, brother Robert G. Hildreth, several nieces and nephews and great granddaughter, Jade Evangeline Martin.

Friends and family may call from 6 - 8 pm Friday, July 15, 2016 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville and also at 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Coburn United Methodist Church, 3618 Maple Avenue, Zanesville with Reverend Webster Cox officiating. He will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in Alexandria, Ohio with a graveside service at 2:00 pm with full military honors being presented by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
