Keith Ross Jones

September 16, 1944 - October 11, 2002

Keith Ross Jones, 58, of Glenarm, formerly of Springfield, died Friday, October 11, 2002, at St. John's Hospital.

He was born September 16, 1944, in Indianapolis, the son of Learny and Neva Parlet Jones. He married Joanne Scattoloni. A son, Matthew Jones, preceded him in death.

Mr. Jones earned a bachelor's degree in arboriculture and ornamental horticulture from Ohio State University in 1967. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving as an infantry company lieutenant in Vietnam with the 1st Battalion of the 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division in 1969. He was a former captain and received a Bronze Star with combat V and RVN Cross of Gallantry.

He was a city arborist for Portland, Maine for eight years and worked as a utility line clearance expert for many years for CIPS and AMEREN-CIPS. He later was a self-employed private consulting forester and horticulturalist.

He was affiliated with Marine Corps League, American Society of Consulting Arborists, International Society of Arboriculture and Illinois Arborist Association. He was a former president of Maine Arborist Association.

Survivors: wife, Joanne; three sons, Anthony Jones of Springfield, Jonathan (wife, Amy) Jones of Petersburg and Nicolas Jones of Indianapolis; four grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private services will be held. Staab Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Keith was a member of the marching band from 1962 through 1966. He played baritone.
