The Best Damn Band In The Land - The Ohio State University Marching Band Alumni

Heather Lutz Nephew

December 13, 1978 - March 14, 2024

Heather Lutz Nephew, 45, of Worthington Ohio passed away on Thursday March 14th, 2024. She was born sunny side up on December 13th, 1978, to Michael and Lynn Lutz in Columbus, Ohio. Photos of her as a baby showed a clear “cone head” that she became known for. That cone head was probably useful for housing all the brains that made her excel at academics and her career. After graduating from Olentangy High School, she began her career at Chase as a temp, and worked her way up to VP, all while raising a family and earning her degree in Computer Science from THE Ohio State University. At Ohio State, she played baritone in the Marching Band and performed in many musicals, always lending her singing and musical talents to the world.

Heather is survived by her former husband Evan Nephew, her son Gabriel, and daughter Claire. She loved her children fiercely and will continue to watch over them and keep them safe. She is also survived by her parents, and sister Tiffany Lutz Baruah and brother-in-law Nishanta Baruah. Tiffany has also requested that Heather watch over her but refrain from judgey looks. She also leaves behind her ornery nieces Kaia and Ferox who call her “Hee Hee”, and nephews Logan and Gavin Nephew, Caden and Owen Munson.

Heather lived her life always planning for the future and never letting her cancer diagnoses define her or make her think she wasn’t able or capable of doing exactly what she wanted. She traveled, planned hiking trips, and drank margaritas on the beach. She colored her hair whatever she fancied at the time, and during treatments, loved to mix up her wigs and change up her look on a whim. If you had a less than flattering opinion about her, she didn’t care, because she was who she was and was not about to change for anyone. If we could all have an ounce of her confidence, we would be unstoppable. Heather was also a loyal friend and fierce defender of those who loved her. To think she would have raged that she couldn’t keep making plans for more mimosa brunches, or trips to the beach, or seeing her children grow is an understatement. On the night she passed away, there was thunder and lighting and crazy storms. Was that her? Probably.

Visitation will be on Tuesday March 19th, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 West Olentangy St, Powell, Ohio 43065. A Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 pm.

Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday March 20th, 2024, at 11:00 am at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 1596 George Road NE, Lancaster, Ohio 43130.

Heather was a member of the marching band in 1998 and 1999. She played Baritone in H-Row and M-Row.
