Jack Howard Newhouse

June 10, 1922 - April 16, 2014

Jack H. Newhouse, 91, of Xenia, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Greenewood Manor. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Marguerite K. Newhouse, on December 25, 2004. He and Marguerite both had birthdays on June 10th. He was the son of Byron and Hazel Howard Newhouse of Columbus, Ohio,

Jack is survived by two sisters-in-law, Diana Russo and Beverly Masters, by several cousins, and many close friends.

From 1942 until 1946, he served in the US Army Medical Corps during World War II.

He graduated from Columbus West High School in 1940 and The Ohio State University in 1947 where he played for 3 years in The OSU Marching Band. In 1952 he earned a Master's Degree in Biology from George Peabody College.

He taught high school science at the O.S.S.O. Home, later known and O.V.C.H. from 1947 until 1981.

Jack was a member of the Greene County Retired Teachers Association; the Ohio Retired Teachers Association; the American Legion, Post 526; The Ohio State University Alumni Association; and the Oldtown United Methodist Church.

Jack will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services will be held at 10 am, April 23, at Neeld Funeral Home, 1276 North Detroit Street, Xenia, Ohio with the Reverend Ken Martin officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 am Wednesday, until service time. Private interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Columbus Ohio. Jack was a member of the marching band in 1941, 1942, and 1946. He played french horn during his first two years and alto horn during his last.
