Firl "Nick" Wayne Nicholson

Firl "Nick" Wayne Nicholson, 68, died on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at James Cancer Hospital.

Nick was a retired Industrial Arts teacher with 32 years at C.P.S. He worked parttime for Jeffrey Mfg. and later for Boss Display. He was a skilled craftsman and had many interests. In 1953, his family was chosen as "The Boy Scout Family of Ohio" and honored by Gov. Lausche. Nick was Award Chairman for Troop 474 and belonged to Ashtabula Steam Engine Club, 76'ers Heisey Club, Heisey Collectors of America, Train Collectors of America and Westerville Promenaders. He was an usher and trustee at Glen Echo Presbyterian and active at Overbrook Presbyterian. He worked Memorial Golf Tournament 12 years and loved to fish in Ohio and Canada. He was a member of the Script Ohio Club and TBDBITL Alumni Band. He received "Most Inspirational Band Member for 2008" with his wife Phyllis. He was a member of New England Lodge.

Preceded in death by his parents Firl White and Iona Carolyn Nicholson. Survived by his wife, Phyllis; sons and grandchildren, Michael (Jennifer), g.c., William and Jacob; Steven (Brandi), g.c., Kaye and Seth; brother, Dave Nicholson (Sandy); brother-in-law, Forest (Pat); nieces and nephews; lifelong friends, Tom (Chlois) Fletcher; special friends, Chuck, Primo, Greg, Teresa and Laura.

Friends may call Monday, January 21, 2008, from 4 - 7 pm at Weir-Arend Funeral Home, 4221 N. High St., where funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday. Rev. William Leety officiating. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery. Contributions may be sent to the Script Ohio Club, 1165 Middleport Dr., Columbus, OH 43225 or James Cancer Hospital.

Nick was a member of the marching band in 1957, 1958, 1960 and 1960. He played trumpet.
