Thomas William Sears
May 5, 1968 - August 1, 2025
Thomas William Sears of Dublin, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on August 1, 2025. He was born on May 5, 1968, in Dayton, Ohio, to Thomas Sears and Carol Sears.
After Tom graduated from Kettering Fairmont High School in 1986, he studied Electrical Engineering at The Ohio State University where he proudly played snare drum in TBDBITL. He then transferred to Wright State University where he graduated with a degree in Computer Engineering.
Tom worked hard to earn his position as a Solutions Architect with Microsoft for almost 30 years. He enjoyed problem solving and collaborating with his team and clients day in and day out. He was currently employed by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services as a Domain Architect. Through his travels with work and personal vacations, he managed to visit all 50 states and even a few different countries.
Many will remember Tom through his extensive list of hobbies including woodworking, drumming, playing guitar, running, boating, landscaping, photography and of course the daily Wordle. He touched the lives of many through his ability to create beautiful items in his woodshop, play guitar or drums for others, and always served as the man behind the camera.
Tom was a loving father and husband and will be remembered for his selfless devotion to his family. With his wife, he volunteered at Colony Cats and traveled; with his son, he was a Scoutmaster, pinewood derby car craftsman, and robotics coach; and with his daughter, he shared his love of music and cheering on the Buckeyes at the Shoe, the Schott, and even the living room. For all of us, he will be remembered for the time spent boating, driving across the country, and just hanging out in the yard.
Tom is survived by his wife, Julie Sears; their children, Nathan Sears and Anna Sears; his mother, Carol Sears; his father, Thomas (Lizette) Sears and his sister, Kelly Sears Barnett. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Cade Barnett, Kendall Barnett, and Quinn Barnett. Tom will be fondly remembered by his uncles, Larry Evans and Bob (Debbie) Sears; and his cousins, Josh (Cyndi) Sears. Justin Sears, Allison (Joshua) Smith, and Sharon Hille. He is also survived by his in-laws, Frank and Jane Monturo; Tony, Valarie, Taylor, and Macey Monturo; and Chris, Meredith, Connor, and Gavin Monturo.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Bill and Helen Evans, Fred and Judy Sears; aunt and uncle, David and Delores Evans, and step-father Kenn Knopp.
A Celebration of Life held in Tom’s honor will take place on August 15, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Schoedinger Dublin, 5980 Perimeter Drive, Dublin, OH 43017.
