Craig Carlton Walton

February 14, 1930 - December 8, 2015

Dr. Craig C. Walton of Hilliard, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. Craig was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late L. S. and Blanche Walton on February 14, 1930. He was raised in Ashland, Ohio graduating from Ashland High School. As a young boy Craig was involved in sports, music and in 1945 he received the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 65 in Ashland, Ohio. Craig returned to Columbus, Ohio to attend The Ohio State University, earning both his undergraduate degree in Music Education in 1952 and his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1959. Upon receiving his degree in 1952, Craig was commissioned into the US Army with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He served at Fort Sill, and in South Korea. In Korea he was awarded the rank of 1st Lieutenant, he remained in the Army reserves until 1961. While at Ohio State he was involved not only in ROTC, ATO, but the Ohio State Marching Band for 4 years, and remained active with TBDBITL Alumni for many years, marching in his last reunion show in 2009.

Craig is survived by his wife of 25 years, Machelle Cook; his son Steve, his wife Nancy and their children, Adam (Michelle), Paige and Rachel; his son Scott, his wife Heather and their children, Holly and Zachary; his son Shawn, his wife Suzi and their children Aisley and Jensen. His daughter Susie Liebert, her husband Robert and their children. Their mother Gwen (Lew) Dulin and Great grandchildren Luke and Zoey. He is also survived by his wife's parents, Gerald and Ruth Cook of Wheeling, WV and his sister-in-law Marsha (Leo) Boissy and their family, countless friends and his constant companion Trooper.

Dr. Walton practiced dentistry in Columbus for 45 years and taught at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry for 12 years. He was active in Columbus Dental Society and Columbus Dental Veterans during his long career. He was a member of Upper Arlington Lutheran Church and Community Church of Vero Beach. Craig was a 20 year member of the National Ski Patrol and former member of both Scioto Country Club and Brookside Country Club.

Craig loved life, skiing, his dogs and a great glass of Chardonnay.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church, 2300 Lytham Rd. at 2:30 pm with Pastor Paul Ulring officiating. A reception will follow at the Longaberger Alumni House.

Craig was a member of the marching band from 1948 through 1951. He played alto horn.
